理事コラム:Year-End Message 2025|Yuji Matson

As we mark the end of the year, I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to all of our members and volunteers. Thanks to your continued involvement and support, Kiyukai remained active and thriving throughout the past year.

A Challenging Year and the Importance of Opportunity

The year 2025 was a challenging one for all of us. In particular, the U.S. tariffs and trade tensions have created a lot of economic instability and anxiety as supply chains and business planning have been upended as a result. The impact is certainly felt more acutely by small business owners and entrepreneurs. However, these challenges also bring new opportunities. The importance of strengthening the relationship between Canada and Japan has become more evident than ever. Both countries have many shared values and are well positioned to support one another.

Kiyukai’s Role in Bridging Japan and Canada

Our organization represents a unique community where Japanese business professionals from diverse industries come together with a shared purpose. Through entrepreneurship, job creation, cultural exchange, and cross-border collaboration, we each contribute in our own way to deepening the ties between Canada and Japan. Looking ahead to 2026, this role will become even more critical. It will be a year in which we can demonstrate that Japan is not only a trusted partner of Canada, but one that is always ready to collaborate, adapt, and thrive together for a stronger and more united world.

Looking Ahead: Young Talent and New Possibilities

Throughout the coming year, our organization will continue to provide networking opportunities and platforms for dialogue, collaboration, and mutual support, welcoming more young professionals. I’m especially encouraged by the growing number of young members of Kiyukai, as well as the volunteers who provide fresh insights and perspectives. Many of our volunteers are here as international students or on working holiday visas. Some have managed to stay here longer term and have joined our membership and, in some cases, even our board of directors. It is my hope that these connections will grow stronger, leading to innovative ideas, partnerships, and a more close-knit, enriching community.

Passing the Baton: A New Vice President

Finally, I would like to share that Rina Miyaue will be taking over from me as the Vice President next year. Rina is a bright, hard-working and dedicated director. She will bring a lot of energy and new ideas to the role. I would like to thank her sincerely for her enthusiasm and commitment, and I look forward to seeing her contributions in the year ahead.

Closing Words

Thank you once again to everyone who has supported us throughout 2025. I wish you a restful holiday season, continued success in your endeavors, and a happy and prosperous New Year!
